What Is Metro Prep’s Summer Biotechnology Camp?

This is not your average summer camp. Metro Prep’s Summer Biotechnology Camp is a unique, week-by-week program designed for curious, motivated high school students who want more than textbooks and lectures.

Over the course of one, two, or three weeks, students will:

  • Work with professional-grade lab equipment like PCR machines, micropipettes, and gel electrophoresis systems—the same tools used in top research labs.
  • Conduct real biotech experiments from start to finish, including DNA extraction, gene editing, and bacterial transformation.
  • Learn from expert educators and biotech professionals who will share industry insights and career advice.

Each week features a different focus, meaning students can choose topics based on their interests or attend all three for the complete biotechnology experience.

Hands-On Science. Real-World Skills.

This isn’t your typical summer camp—it’s where future scientists get started. At Metro Prep’s Summer Biotechnology Camp, you’ll do more than learn about biotech—you’ll practice it using the same lab equipment and techniques professionals use in research labs.

Industry-Designed Learning

We worked with biotech industry experts to design each week’s sessions. That means everything you’ll learn is relevant, practical, and future-focused. You’ll explore topics at the cutting edge of science—like genetic engineering, DNA forensics, and CRISPR gene editing—while gaining the skills that will set you apart.

Who Should Attend?

This camp is perfect for:

  • Teens in grades 9–12 who are interested in science, medicine, genetics, or research.
  • Students who want to get ahead with real lab experience rarely available at the high school level.
  • Future scientists eager to develop analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and technical laboratory skills.

No prior lab experience is needed. Just a love for science and a willingness to get hands-on!

What You’ll Actually Do Here

We believe the best way to learn science is to do science. That’s why you’ll spend most of your time:

  • Extracting DNA (yes, you’ll see the building blocks of life with your own eyes)
  • Amplifying genes with PCR (a technique that revolutionized genetics)
  • Running gel electrophoresis to analyze DNA fragments
  • Transforming bacteria to express new genes—watch them glow under UV light!
