Our School

Established in 1982, Metropolitan Prep Academy is a private, semestered, coeducational school for university-oriented students in grades 7-12.

Metro Prep knows that educators with the right attitude, providing a supportive yet challenging academic environment, can profoundly impact a student’s life. Our strength lies in developing the whole individual, through the personal relationships established with students and their families.

The Metro Prep Advantage

The Metro Prep experience is defined by our semestered system, which allows for focused learning and better retention. Our university preparation programs ensure smooth transitions to higher education, while our emphasis on holistic development cultivates essential organizational skills, work ethics, and study habits.

We believe in keeping parents informed and involved in their child’s educational journey. Regular communication, including detailed midterm and final reports, ensures that parents are always aware of their child’s progress and achievements.

Academic Excellence

Our curriculum is designed to prepare students for university success. All courses for grades 9 and 10 are taught at the academic/open level, while university preparation and university/college preparation courses are offered at the senior level, as mandated by the Ontario Ministry of Education.

Graduates receive the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. The school emphasizes academic excellence, organizational skills, and the development of good work and study habits. Teacher-parent communication is encouraged to create the best learning environment for each student.

Academic Year

The academic year at Metro Prep consists of two semesters:

  • Semester 1: September – January
  • Semester 2: January – June

Students typically enrol in four credits per semester, completing their high school requirements in four years. They are encouraged to choose a broad range of courses to keep many university options open.

Each semester concludes with compulsory final examinations. Courses from grades 9 through 12 are evaluated with term work accounting for 70% and final evaluations, usually written exams, making up 30% of the final mark.

At the beginning of a course, all students receive the evaluation breakdown. Detailed report cards are issued at midterm and following the final examinations.

Faculty

Our team of full-time educators are committed to student success, offering daily after-school support and weekly evening sessions. With an average of 14 students per class, we ensure individual attention and active participation.
