Beginning tomorrow, Metro Prep teachers will temporarily switch to live online instruction for all courses. These daily sessions will use the Zoom online conferencing platform, which is available on computers and mobile devices.
Approximately 5 minutes before each period begins, students should visit their class page in Edsby and click the Zoom meeting link.
When using smartphones or tablets for the first time, you will be prompted to download the “Zoom Cloud Meetings” mobile app. Laptops and desktop computers will download and launch the Zoom application, or can join directly using the web browser. If you are experiencing difficulties getting started, we suggest launching via the Zoom application and using the Chrome web browser.
*Upgrade Notice* For any students who were using the system during the previous school year, please be sure to open Zoom in advance so that you can allow it to update to the latest version when you are prompted. Due to a number of security enhancements that have been added to Zoom, you will need to be using the newest version in order to join the current classes/meetings.
Metro Prep students are expected to attend all of their classes. These important live sessions will provide opportunities for:
- teachers to provide full lectures, introduce new handouts, notes, assignments or other materials being posted to Edsby
- students to ask questions or discuss the previous day’s assigned work
- teachers to check in with the class, both socially and professionally
- a scheduled time for students to focus on learning and progressing through the necessary coursework
Teachers will use combinations of audio, video and screen sharing during Zoom times, and will post supplemental materials using Edsby. They will take attendance each day, ask their students to participate throughout the class, and be available on-camera.
In case of any technical difficulties or home internet issues, students can also participate in Zoom meetings by telephone. To join audio by phone call, please dial local access number (647) 558-0588. When prompted, enter the meeting ID and passcode found on each of your Edsby class pages.
